On February 18, in the capital of Indonesia, in the city of Jakarta, the draw for the Asian Cup among men's teams in 2022 took place, following which the rivals of the National Team of Kazakhstan became known.
The Asia Basketball Cup (previously called the Asian Basketball Association Cup) is an international basketball tournament held every two years since 1960 under the auspices of FIBA Asia. It is a qualifying tournament for Asian teams for the World Championship and the Olympic tournament. It is the most prestigious tournament for men's national basketball teams in Asia. The current champion is the Australian team (2017).
The upcoming 30th anniversary Asian Cup 2022 will be held from 12 to 24 July 2022 in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Countries participating in the tournament: 16 teams that have passed the qualification will compete for the Asian Cup - the hosts of the tournament are the Indonesian national team, Australia, Bahrain, China, Chinese Taipei, India, Iran, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Lebanon, New Zealand, Philippines, Saudi Arabia and Syria.
The results of the draw: "Steppenwolves" were in group "C" along with the teams of Iran, Japan and Syria.
Recall that the qualifying tournament for the continental championship started in February 2020. The men's national team of Kazakhstan began its fight for a ticket to the Cup with two home matches, which were held in the city of Nur-Sultan at the new modern sports arena Zhekpe-Zhek. Then the Steppenwolfs snatched a military victory from the Palestinian team - 79:76 and slightly lost to the Jordan team - 68:71. The matches of the second playing window of the Qualifiers, which were supposed to take place in November 2020, due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, were postponed to the end of February 2021 and were held in the capital of Bahrain, the city of Manama. In the second meeting against the Palestine national team, our team confidently consolidated its success - 56:93, and both games against the Sri Lanka national team ended in an unconditional victory for Emil Rajkovic's wards - 52:111 and 107:37. In the final qualifying match of the Kazakhstan national team, unfortunately, they failed to take revenge on the Jordanians on their site - 80:70. Thus, our team qualified for the Asian Cup from the second place in the group with four victories in six matches played.
