Men's National team of Kazakhstan on basketball 3x3 will compete for a ticket to the Tokyo Olympics

Exactly one week later, on May 27, the men's national team of Kazakhstan will fight for a ticket to the debut Olympic basketball tournament 3x3 in Tokyo. "Steppenwolves" will take part in the qualification, which will take place from May 26 to May 30 in the Austrian city of Graz.

According to the rules for the qualifying tournament, it was necessary to register six candidates, four of whom must be in the top ten players according to the individual rating of the country.

By the decision of the Federation, the following players were summoned to the location of the National Team:

• Ruslan Aitkali - Astana, Nur-Sultan
• Vladimir Kurochkin - “Caspian”, Aktau
• Nikolay Bazhin - “Astana”, Nur-Sultan
• Dulat Eshmukhambetov - “SC Qazaqstan”, Almaty
• Rivkhat Babekenov - "Zhigalma", Almaty
• Andrey Litvinenko - Astana, Nur-Sultan

Thus, the list of candidates includes four professional players and two representatives of street basketball. The final composition of the National Team will be determined based on the results of training camps, which are held in the capital from May 17 to 25 under the leadership of managers and coaches of the team Azamat Kabdylkarimov and Ilya Koptelov. Recall that at the end of the draw, our guys were in the group "B" together with the teams of Belgium, Lithuania, South Korea and the United States. In total, 20 teams will take part in the tournament, and only three prize-winners will be eligible to participate in the 2021 Olympic Games.



Earlier, the International Basketball Federation 3x3 published the schedule of matches of the tournament, according to which the Kazakhstan national team will play in the group stage on May 27 and 29:

• May 27, 15:50 - Lithuania vs Kazakhstan
• May 27, 18:20 - Kazakhstan vs Belgium
• May 29, 15:50 - South Korea vs Kazakhstan
• May 29, 17:55 - Kazakhstan vs USA

Online broadcasts of all matches of the tournament will be available on the main page of the Federation website.


According to the conditions of the qualifying tournament, the teams that take 1st and 2nd places in their groups go to the playoff series. The final day, scheduled for May 30, will begin with eight quarter-finals - 4 for each gender, followed by six games for the Olympic Ticket - four semi-finals and two games for third place, with no first and second place draws.

ATTENTION! - In honor of the participation of the men's national team of Kazakhstan in the qualification for the Olympic basketball tournament 3x3, the Basketball Federation of Kazakhstan is holding a competition among young players and their mentors, the winners of which will receive a certificate for the purchase of equipment in the amount of 150,000 tenge from "Steppenwolfs".
