The men's national team of Kazakhstan played the first two matches in the group stage of the Olympic basketball qualifying tournament 3x3, which takes place in the Austrian city of Graz from 26 to 30 May.
Let us remind you that out of 20 national teams participating in the qualification, only 3 best teams will receive tickets to the Olympic Games in Tokyo. All teams are divided into 4 groups of 5 teams in each group. According to the conditions of the qualifying tournament, the teams that take 1st and 2nd places in their groups go to the playoff series. As a result of the draw, the Kazakhstan national team got into group "B" together with the teams from Belgium, Lithuania, South Korea and the United States, which bypass our team in the FIBA 3x3 world ranking and all matches promised to be extremely difficult.
The tournament started on May 26, but the first battles within the framework of group "B" took place on May 27, and in the first game of the group, the national teams of Kazakhstan and Lithuania entered the site. Lithuanians have the 7th seeded number in the tournament, in contrast to the 19th in Kazakhstan. Our team opened the score in the match and for the first couple of minutes the game was on an equal footing, while “Steppenwolves” kept ahead. But then the opponents began to actively impose their game, which our team could not cope with. In the following minutes, the Lithuanians tried to seize the initiative, but they could not achieve a significant lead. Our team had serious problems in the attack, from which the numbers of the score of the national team of Kazakhstan on the scoreboard practically did not change. Meanwhile, the Lithuanian team was able to cope with its difficulties and began to rapidly go into the lead. Unfortunately, the Kazakhs could not find their game in attack, and in defense they stopped coping with their rivals. As a result, the match ended with the victory of the Lithuanian team with a score of 21: 9.
Two hours after the game with Lithuania, our team was opposed by representatives of Belgium, seeded at number 10 in this tournament. It is important to note that they won their first match in the tournament against South Korea with a score of 22:14 and were also very dangerous opponents. Our rivals opened the score in this game, but Steppenwolves did not lag behind. In the first half of the game, both teams worked very hard in defense, and therefore the score after five minutes was not at all great - 5: 6 in favor of Belgium. Our guys continued to marry when throwing under active pressure from the opponent, and this in no way increased the chances of winning. It was also difficult for the Belgians to score points, but they did it more successfully than our team. In the second part of the game, they were able to create a comfortable advantage for themselves, and although they did not manage to complete the game ahead of schedule, they chalked up the second victory in a row - 13:19.
Also, within the framework of the game in group "B" there were two more games in which the US team turned out to be the strongest. First, the Americans snatched victory from Lithuania in a dramatic match - 21:20, and then to smithereens defeated South Korea - 21: 3. At the end of today's game day, the United States leads the group, Belgium is on the second intermediate line, and both of these teams have two victories in two games in reserve. Lithuanians are in third position with one win and one loss. Kazakhstan is in fourth place, and South Korea is in fifth, both Asian teams have two defeats after two games. Thus, in fact, getting to the quarterfinals for our team is already unrealistic.
The remaining two games "Steppenwolves" will play on Saturday May 29 against teams from South Korea and the United States. As today's game day has shown, the Americans are extremely dangerous rivals, but the Koreans will be quite capable of beating them.
