25th U-18 Asian Championship among women's teams

From October 28 to November 3 in India, Bengaluru will host the 25th Asian Women's Basketball Cup U-18, which will be attended by the youth National team of Kazakhstan.

Asian Basketball Cup for girls under 18 (previously called the Asian Basketball Associations Cup under 18) is an international basketball tournament held since 1970, every 2 years under the auspices of FIBA (Asia). It is the most prestigious tournament for youth women's national teams in this sport in Asia, and is also a qualifying tournament for the U-19 World Cup, which is held next year. The current champions are the Chinese team.

The national team of Kazakhstan for the first time took part in the 18th Asian Championship U-18 in the Division "B" in 2007, which was held in the capital of Thailand, Bangkok. Then our girls took the 3rd place in the division and the final 9th place. At the next Championship in 2008, held in Indonesia, the Kazakh national team became the best in the second division and won the right to participate in the elite division at the next Asian championship, but in 2010 our girls took the last line of the standings and returned to the Division "B". In 2012, the Kazakhstan team won bronze medals, and following the results of the next two championships in 2014 and 2016, Kazakhstani basketball players took the 4th place.


The basis of the National team in the upcoming cup was made up of young basketball players of Pavlodar "Irtysh" and the capital club "Astana Tigers", as well as the team included representatives of new women's teams from Aktobe and Almaty region. The coaching staff of our team is headed by an experienced specialist from Astana – Alexander Gusev, who holds the position of coach of the "Astana Tigers" farm team, and assists him the head coach of the women's "Aktobe" – Irina Bondarenko.

The tournament will be attended by 16 teams from the Asian region and Oceania, which are divided into two divisions – "A" and "B" 8 teams in each division. In turn, within each division the teams are divided into two groups – "A" and "B", in each of which "planted" 4 teams.

On October 11, the draw was held, which was held automatically in accordance with the international rating of FIBA Asia and Oceania among the youth women's national teams. As a result of the draw, our girls were in the group "B" of the same division with the teams of Hong Kong, Syria and Samoa.


The format of the tournament:

Group stage:

The teams are divided into 2 groups – "A" and "B", 4 teams in each group. The teams will play in 1 round one game with each other within their groups. According to the results of the group stage, the teams distribute places from the 1st to the 4th in their groups.

Playoffs:

According to the results of the group stage, the teams that took 1st place in their groups automatically pass to the 1/2 finals. Teams that took 2nd and 3rd places in the quarterfinal will compete for the second ticket to the semifinals in the B2/A3 and A2/B3 system. The winners of the quarterfinals and the teams that took 1st place in their groups form pairs of 1/2 finals. The winner of the 1st pair and the winner of the 2nd pair of the semifinals will compete for the 1st place. The teams which lost in the semifinals will play for the 3rd place. In addition to winning prizes, matches are foreseen for the 5th place among the teams that lost in the quarter finals and for the 7th place among the teams that took the 4th place in their groups. At all stages of the tournament teams play one game in their pairs.

Group stage matches will be held from 28 to 30 October. Qualification matches for reaching the semifinals and the draw of the 7th place will be held on November 1, the finalists and the fate of the 5th place will be determined on November 2, and the final match and game for the 3rd place will be held on November 3. Our girls will play the first game on Sunday, October 28 against the Syrian national team, the next day they will meet with representatives of Samoa, and the match with the Hong Kong team will be held on the final game day of the group stage on October 30.
