On June 23 in Astana, at the site of the Mall "Khan Shatyr" were held matches of the group stage of the tournament FIBA Asia Quest 3x3 subzone "CABA", dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Astana.
Within two days, the teams of the countries that are members of the Central Asian Basketball Association will compete for a ticket to the continental final, scheduled for September 2018. The winner of the quest will be entitled to participate in the elite international tournament World Tour Kuala Lumpur Masters 2018, which will be held on October 13 and 14 in the capital of Malaysia.
In the category of men's teams, all seven teams were divided into two groups. The team "Team Bishkek" from Kyrgyzstan became the undisputed leader in the group "A", without a problem defeating their opponents in the group: in the first match our team from Atyrau – "Atyrau Isker" lost to the Kirghiz 10 points – 22:10, the Turkmen team also did not was able to impose the fight and lost with a score of 16:9. In the fight against Turkmen streetball players for the second ticket to the playoffs our guys suffered an unfortunate defeat, conceded only three points.
Within the group "B", another team from Kyrgyzstan – "Bars Team", on the contrary, acted as an outsider, having lost all three matches. Thus, the main competition developed between the Kazakhstan teams. Almaty team "Mao" also held all three matches in the group, and at the end of the game day, located on the second line of the standings. Almaty residents have two victories over the capital "Astana Tigers" – 18:14 and "Bars Team" from Kyrgyzstan – 22:8, and they were defeated by other representatives of the southern capital – the team "Zhigalma" with the score 22:11. At the moment, "Zhigalma" are the leaders of the group, but tomorrow they will meet with the "tigers", which ranked are unfavorable for them the third place, in the final match of the group stage. In the case of the victory of Almaty, provided that they gain more than 9 points, the final position of the teams will remain unchanged and Astana residents will not go to the playoffs, but if "Zhigalma" is defeated, then in the current "twist" the fate of the first and second places in the group will depend on the number of goals scored. The only chance of the capital team to bypass "Mao" and to enter the final round is a victory with the maximum number of points.
In the category of women's teams at the end of the day there was no less intriguing situation. In the race for the first place in the group the Kazakhstan team was unattainable - our girls defeated all rivals in all four matches, and in three of them ahead of schedule. Women's team "Astana Tigers" and the team of Turkmenistan, located in second and third place, respectively, held three games and lost only to the group leaders. At the moment, the "tigresses" have a fragile advantage of 5 points, which they need at least to keep in tomorrow's match against the Turkmen women to stay in the second position. If in the previous case, regardless of the result of the match, both teams go to the semi-finals, in the other decisive match of the group stage between the outsiders – "KazAST" and "Squirrels KazNU" at stake is the last loophole in the playoffs. Both Almaty teams today did not know the taste of victory, losing after three meetings, which should be an additional incentive for them. It should be noted that the "squirrels", closing the table at the moment, need not just a victory, but a victory with an advantage of more than 12 points.
